NOCHE and CBC Magazine Launch Inaugural “The Expys” Awards

Nominations Being Accepted to Honor the Best Internship Programs in Northeast Ohio

Cleveland (Dec. 8, 2010) — The Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education (NOCHE) and Cleveland Business Connects (CBC) magazine have announced a call for nominations for The Expys, an awards program that will recognize the best experiential learning programs in Northeast Ohio.

The awards are designed to bring attention to the area’s most effective internship and co-op programs, which help students gain valuable experience that is immediately applicable to the workforce, while also filling employers’ talent pipelines, fueling growth for our region.

Awards will be presented to companies and individuals in the following five categories:

  • Best Intern
  • Best Mentor
  • Coolest Internship
  • Best New Internship
  • Best Overall Internship


Online nominations for each award are currently being accepted at www.noche.org. The deadline for nominations is December 31, 2010, and winners will be announced at a luncheon on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at a venue to be determined.

July 21 AMPLIFY luncheon focuses
on current development projects
in Greater Cleveland

CLEVELAND — An expert panel will discuss current and new development projects in Northeast Ohio at the AMPLIFY Speaker Series, Wednesday, July 21. The ticketed luncheon is open to the public and takes place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel Cleveland Downtown/Lakeside.

Facilitated by Joseph A. Marinucci, president and CEO of the Downtown Cleveland Alliance, the panel will focus on PlayhouseSquare, the East Bank of the Flats, the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority, and the Medical Mart. The panelists are:

  • Tom Einhouse, vice president, PlayhouseSquare Real Estate Services — Einhouse will discuss the status of PlayhouseSquare’s million-square-foot commercial real estate portfolio, which includes: the redevelopment of the Hanna Theatre; the development of a District of Design real estate plan and retail master plan; the redevelopment of the East 14th streetscape; and the redevelopment of the 1305 and 1317 Euclid buildings.
  • Adam Fishman, principal, Fairmount Properties LLC — Fishman, who has more than 21 years experience in the commercial real estate industry, will update the status of the Flats East Bank project, which is being developed, in part, by Fairmount Properties.
  • William D. Friedman, president and CEO, Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority — Friedman, less than two months into his new role as head of the Port Authority, will speak to his experiences and the potential of the Port of Cleveland.
  • Dennis Madden, executive director, Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. (MMPI) — Madden, as the liaison between MMPI and the Cleveland community, will provide an overview of the Medical Mart.

CLEVELAND — Sharon Sobol Jordan, the president and CEO of the Center for Families and Children, has replaced YWCA Greater Cleveland President and CEO Barbara J. Danforth as a panelist at the May 26 Amplify speaker series luncheon on nonprofits. A scheduling conflict is preventing Danforth from participating.

The CFC is one of Northeast Ohio’s largest nonprofit service providers, serving more than 12,000 children, families, and individuals every year. The organization works to make success possible in school, work, and life for people in the area’s most challenged communities.

Jordan and the rest of Amplify’s expert panel will discuss the relationship between the local nonprofit and for-profit communities.
